In late June 2006 I traveled to the United Arab Emirates of Dubai and Sharjah. Dubai is an amazing place with an incredible amount of construction underway. They are building one skyscraper after another, including one that I believe will be the tallest in the world. I had hoped to meet some of the local hams, but a very busy and complicated work schedule made that impossible. I'm looking forward to a more relaxed visit sometime in the future.
