I've made two trips to Italy, roughly 38 years apart! My first trip was to Naples in the late 60's, when I was young engineer working for the U.S. Navy Department. The most recent was in 2006, when my wife and I went to Tuscany for two weeks to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We rented a villa in the Tuscan countryside, just outside Cortona.
Ham radio wasn't the primary focus of the trip, but I did get on for one or two hours each day to experience ham radio from Italy. During those two weeks, I got a good feeling for what it is like to operate from Europe and it was fun to work the EU's and Russians from "their side".
